Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center operated by the U.S. Geological Survey. Excellent searchable database of publications written by NPWRC personnel, includes plant and wildlife topics. Neat electronic postcard feature.

Friends of the Prairie Learning Center - Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge. Experience the breathtaking beauty of over 5,000 acres of tallgrass prairie and native Midwest wildlife. Located near Prairie City, Iowa on Highway 163 in Jasper County. The Refuge re-creates the native plant and animal communities that greeted Iowa's earliest settlers in the mid 1800's.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency - Green Landscaping with Native Plants. Reference site for landscaping with native plants. "Wild Ones Handbook" link provides a source of information about planning, establishment and management of native landscapes. "Toolkit" link takes you to Natural Landscaping for Public Officials, interesting info.

Konza Long Term Ecological Research Web Server. Kansas State University. Gateway to Konza Prairie sites and pages. A must see site for anyone interested in tallgrass prairie. Konza Prairie Research Natural Area (KPRNA) is a 3,487 hectare tallgrass prairie preserve owned by The Nature Conservancy and Kansas State University and operated as a field research station by the KSU Division of Biology.

Texas Wildlife and Parks - The Plant Life of Texas. Tons of good info about wildflowers and native grasses of the Lone Star state.

U.S. Department of Agriculture - Agricultural Research Service. Phytochemical & Ethnobotanical Databases. Search for chemicals contained in plants, a specified activity or ethnobotanical uses. Good resource. Be prepared to spend some time at this one.

Center for Plant Conservation. Info about endangered prairie plants. Check out "National Collection".

Restoration and Reclamation Review. University of Minnesota. Info on a variety of Rest & Rec projects, some of which include prairie and savanna.

Purdue University - Center for New Crops & Plant Products. Three features of particular interest: CropSEARCH - type in the name of the plant you want to know about, provides inforamtion; CropINDEX - list of plants in database by scientific or common name; Aromatic-MedicinalPLANTS - a guide to aromatic & medicinal plants, culinary herbs & spices. Contains some native species, listed by scientific or common name.

Ohio State University - A Sense of Place. OSU studies into using prairie plants for landscaping.

USDA-NRCS, Plant Material Centers locations. Click on the regions served by a PMC and see what native plant releases have been made, what research is going on and view a list of publications for the respective PMC.

USDA-NRCS PLANTS database. Comprehensive database of plants, including native and non-native grasses, shrubs and trees. Most with photos. VegSpec feature allows you to select plants for your area and use. Information can be overwhelming and in some cases difficult for the layman to follow.
