That's right, you can establish native grasses in one growing season when you use PLATEAU® herbicide, along with the proper techniques. PLATEAU® can be used in a variety of ways, pre-emergent, post-emergent, no-till or clean till.
PLATEAU® controls more than 60 broadleaf, sedge, and grassy weeds which compete with new native grass seedlings.
PLATEAU® is labeled for use with big bluestem, little bluestem, indiangrass and sideoats grama. But what makes it even more attractive as an establishment tool is there are a number of forbs which are tolerant to PLATEAU®, such as: blackeyed susan, purple coneflower, upright coneflower, lance leaved and plains coreopsis, lespedeza species, partridge pea, Illinois bundleflower, purple prairie clover, desmodium species and others.
For existing CRP conversions to new CRP native grass, a tank mix of PLATEAU® and RoundUp®, is an unbeatable combination for no-till burn down. PLATEAU® blocks the production of three essential amino acids necessary for growth in the species it controls. Combine this with RoundUp®, which blocks the production of four entirely different essential amino acids and you have a one-two punch that can't be beat, but works better than either separately. And you know what that means, no more incomplete kills and costly, inefficient retreatments to kill the sod. No more dilemmas over whether to spray again and start over or wait until next fall and hope the native grass seedlings survive through the summer.
In addition to excellent burndown, PLATEAU® provides residual weed control. After the burndown it keeps working to keep competition from suppressing your native grass and forb planting. Weed control means you won't have to be out there mowing to knock down the weeds. That could save you as many as three or more mowings.
The incredible combination of native grass and forb tolerance coupled with burndown enhancement and weed control makes PLATEAU® herbicide an excellent choice for CRP. PLATEAU® herbicide will save you money. By using PLATEAU® in a tank mix with RoundUp® you will eliminate the potential of having to retreat your sod for no-till burn down, saving from $25 to $37 per acre. Because of the residual weed control of PLATEAU® you will eliminate the need for weed management by mowing, saving from $5 to $8 per acre per application. Now add in the benefit of establishing your native grasses in one growing season, which is difficult to put a price on, and you can see that PLATEAU® doesn't cost, it saves you money.
